Homeade Baby Food...

Myles started eating solids on December 23 and he has really taken to it like I figured he would. He has had banana, zucchini, sweet potato and avocado. I have some butternut squash and green beans in my kitchen for him to try too, which we'll start this week hopefully.

Being that I have to return to work, we figured it would be easy (and fun!) to make a lot of his food in bulk and then freeze for quick and easy feeds. So I found some neat ice cube trays with lids that make 1 ounce sized cubes and have started freezing food for him. In this picture -------------->   is just zucchini (with a little cereal and banana) and sweet potato...next up to be frozen is butternut squash, green beans, and banana. It's so easy - bake or steam, puree, and freeze!

~Food For Thought~, Is it really cheaper to make babyfood myself? Well, according to this study, you can save as much as 20 cents per ounce if you make it yourself. And, assuming an average baby begins by eating 5 ounces a day, that's $1.00 saved per day in the beginning, but, that baby will only continue to eat more and more as it gets used to solids and could eventually save you $4.00 or more a day, which is $1,460 saved a year or more in baby food!! Why not put those dollars into a savings account for baby instead of handing them over to the food makers who don't give the best product for baby anyway?

I made Gabby's baby food for the first time a month or so back. Forgot to post pic! But I was suprised how easy and quick it all was.

I'm making Kate's baby food, too! I secretly kinda enjoy it :) It is SO easy. At least for now.

Here's the catch...she hates food! We started I think the exact day you did...maybe a few days earlier. She can't stand cereal or fruit/veggies. We've tried apples (sweet ones), bananas, and butternut squash. She gets that "bitter beer face" and spits it out.

The girl is 22 pounds! How can she not love food? Do you let Myles (try to) feed himself?

Kandi I LOVE it too - it is SO fun for me!! Wow it sounds like the ladybug is really thriving even without eating solids!! Way to go mom! It took a few times for us to get Myles to enjoy eating - we started with the rice cereal and he hated it at first so we put it away until just recently. I can't believe she doesn't even like the sweet stuff! I heard avocado is a good starter too, but if not, maybe she's just happy on milk for now!! :)

We don't let him try to feed himself, I *was* going to do baby led weaning but chickened out with the thought of him shoving too much in and choking! ugh. Besides, I love to feed him, it's so fun to sit there and subconsciously open my mouth every.single.time I serve him! Haha
